Tonight was hands down the slowest night since I've been dispatching (3 years), we had 18 cars on the road so that makes it even tougher. How does it work in other towns as far as leases etc.? My drivers pay a certain lease each night for a 12 hour shift. Is that how it is everywhere? Sorry if I sound naive...but just curious. I have heard that in some cities you lease a car for a week at a time. Anyway you can see how bored I am...

I never worked on lease, 50/50/split, i paid gas. I did very well. Worked nights so had the bar crowd, also bus , airport and ferry. Tips were very good.Oh i was in Hyannis Ma, Cape Cod....Peace.
Cool, just wondered how it worked elsewhere -- THANKS!
Gas prices must be killing the cabs now, the fares are not increasing to match the fares.Getting a fare increase usually requires city or town ok and they are not going to do that more than every couple of years if your lucky.Did you ever drive cab?
God no, actually I was a mom and a Nurse , then a dispatcher - go figure huh...I got this job based on my "voice" and my diplomacy. We started out as a small 5 cab or so company and grew leaps and bounds withing 3 years to the largest cab compnay in our town. I work the graveyard shift and its a college town and can get real interesting...thanks for reading me!
The company I work with has a 60/40 split. 60% of the meter plus $6 goes to the company. 40% minus $6 plus the tips goes to the driver. The company buys the gas.
Busy nights, everybody wins. Slow nights, everybody loses.
